Archery Hunts
Archery hunting is exciting and productive, due to excellent game populations and varied topography that is to the hunter’s advantage. In our area, the wind is always a factor to be considered.  Elevation is between 5,000 and 6,000 feet.

Sometimes we call elk, and sometimes we just have to stay out of their sight as they come in to our blinds.  Either way, having a big bull, or a whole herd of elk, right in front of your sights is about as exciting as hunting can be!

It’s surprising how snakey and sneaky an older mule deer or whitetail can be in early fall.  He’s definitely a stalking job!  Don’t be surprised if you have a whitetail buck peg you in the wide open!

A special word about archery hunting for antelope:  don’t plan on sitting (bored) over a water hole or near a fence crossing.  We have found much more excitement and success in stalking good bucks and utilizing decoys.

Rifle Hunts
Most of our rifle hunts are conducted on private land, with good populations of elk, mule deer, whitetail deer, and antelope.  Antelope hunting is an option in combination with elk and deer on early rifle hunts.  Over the years, I can’t say that any one  week is better for getting big bull elk than another.  Big bucks, on the other hand, definitely are easier to come by later in the season.

When choosing a rifle for your hunt, pick your favorite:  the one you shoot most often.  You’ll be more accurate with it.  Favorite calibers here are .270, .30-06, 7mm, 300.  Choose the lightest effective load recommended for the caliber, so you have the flattest, fastest possible trajectory.  A word about scopes:  4 power is sufficient.  I have seen a number of good shots not taken because the hunter had a variable powered scope cranked up to 9 power or so; the hunter couldn’t see the whole animal when it came time to shoot. Rifle season includes muzzleloader hunting.  Because hunter numbers are controlled, hunting with a muzzleloader is a viable option for the dedicated hunter.

Special Hunts
Trophy Antelope
We guide antelope hunts with either bow or rifle.  Antelope hunting is fun!  Do plenty of shooting before your hunt, because they don’t wait around for you to figure things out.   You need to be fast and accurate with bow or rifle.  For an extra fee, you can combine upland bird hunting with your antelope hunt.  You can also combine antelope hunting with some elk and deer hunts.
